Interested in helping financially? We thank you. As a potential donor, you are probably wondering how your money will be spent. DREAM is run completely by volunteers, so our administrative expenses are very low: Monthly expenses: $20 / month for our shelter management software subscription, TrackABeast. (This keeps us legal with the Department of Agriculture.) About $5 in postage. That's it. Yes, even our webhosting for this website is donated by friends of the dachshunds. Annual investments:Administration (bank fees, paypal fees): About $50 annually Department of Agriculture license: $100 annually One-Time investmentsLegal set up (incorporation, 501c3 fees, etc): $1200 (one-time) Website set up: $500 (one-time) Fundraising ExpensesOur annual picnic, Howl-O-Weenie, is our major fundraising event. The largest expense for Howl-O-Weenie is for our T-shirts. These cost about $2000 to print, generating about $6000 in revenues (so about $4000 profit). Hot dogs are donated by Publix on Piedmont, with minimal (about $100) miscellaneous expenses for the overall lunch sales. The homemade desserts are donated by the board and other friends. Hot dog lunches generate about $2500 in revenues. Printing for the Information Sheet and educational materials is about $60. The large prize baskets for the contest winners are made of donated items that we collect throughout the year. We made a decision to invest in tables (rather than renting them as we have in the past), because we have access to free storage during the year (thanks, Ken!). The picnic grows each year, so we buy about 5 tables per year, about $350. Don't you have other expenses?Foster homes pay for heartworm and flea prevention, as well as the food, for their foster doggies. You can see that it takes a lot of friends to help the doggies! All other funds are spent on veterinary care for the dachshunds, including vaccinations, heartworm tests, spay/neuter surgery (we use a low-cost spay/neuter clinic to maximize funds), and other medical treatments. Occasionally we contract with a behavioral trainer for abused and neglected doggies with behavioral issues. To give you an idea of ordinary veterinary costs: We work with Best Friends to Spay/neuter our dogs. Best Friends will do the spay / neuter and all vaccinations for $110, but they can help only with dogs who come to us "intact." For dogs that come into DREAM already spayed / neutered, we use a low-cost vaccination program. For vaccinations/heartworm test/fecal test, our cost is about $85. Antibiotics (needed by most shelter dogs): $40 Once in a while we have a dachsie who needs back surgery (IVDD is common in this breed). $2000 - 3000, followed by physical therapy ($70 per session), swim therapy ($90 per session) and wheelchair cart (depending on type, $70 - $250). We often receive dogs who are positive for heartworm. Heartworm treatments cost about $500. Fiscal responsibility is an important part of our mission and values. If you have any other questions about DREAM, its mission, and its commitment to fiscal responsibility, contact our president, Kristin Leydig Bryant at kristin.leydig.bryant (at) gmail.com. We are completely open about our finances and would be glad to share our financial statements with you. You can help by donating any amount. Please consider sponsoring one dog's full vetting: $110 Or, a vaccination package: $85. Or, a heartworm treatment: $500. If you're feeling particularly generous, consider sponsoring a disc surgery for a dog in need: $3000. Whatever amount you give, we will treat your donation with the utmost care and sense of responsibility. |
