The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.

~Samuel Butler, Notebooks, 1912

Coming Events:

HOWL-O-Weenie 2009:  Likely date is October 3 in Cabbagetown Park. Start planning your costumes, training for the races, and getting those tail wagging muscles in shape for the contests!

Thoughts after the 2008 festival -- We HOWLed!

Pat Thomas of PhotoPhetish took some terrific pictures --check 'em out!  There are many really beautiful shots of people having a wonderful time with their dogs, a hilarious series of the race, and the costume contest shots are priceless.  There is one picture where the dachshund lobsters are hanging out with the dachshund goldfish -- it's a veritable dachshund aquarium!

Please email Pat@photophetish.com if you'd like to order any (the resolution is quite low on the Kodak site, because there are so many). Pat does the photos for us every year for FREE -- please make it worth her while and order lots of photos!  And consider her when you need a pet or family portrait.

Our foster dad Jonathan Ross also made a video -- see it here!

And thank you for your support of our rescue efforts, the $ raised this weekend will fund vet care for our dogs for about 4 months.

My personal favorite memories:

  • the amazing costumes -- wow, do y'all get better every year -- so clever, so well-executed!  We have plans to make the costume contest more fair next year.
  • the hokey-pokey (an idea that started out as a joke, but ended up being a highlight)
  • seeing the DREAM foster alumni dogs, so happy in their new families
  • the line of vendor tents -- festive!
  • the terrific bluegrass from Roxie (Doxie) Watson!  Many compliments on their beautiful sound!
  • Yummy chilidogs!
  • The puppymill legislative info from the Humane Society.  If you didn't get by there to learn about how you can support Baby's Bill, please click here.
  • Laughing so hard my face hurt at the face-kissing, tail-wagging, and howling contests

We had a fabulous time!  Don't forget to support our vendors and sponsors all year long!
